The student becomes the master: Why Chad Dawson is the next great boxing trainer

Publish date: 2024-06-30

Chad Dawson’s fighting career may be over, but his love and passion for boxing still burn as bright as daylight. The now 40-year-old Fan Arch athlete has been around the sport all his life, making it hard for him to walk away from it completely.

The once prized fighter has now turned a new page in his career, guiding the new generation of boxers as a trainer.

Chad Dawson knows the importance of having a good trainer by a boxer’s side since it helps them shape what kind of fighter they’ll become. A teacher’s influence, after all, affects eternity.

Chad Dawson himself had a revolving door of trainers throughout his boxing career. He started with John Scully in the early days, followed by Dan Birmingham. When that didn’t work out, he shifted to Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Floyd Mayweather Sr., and Emanuel Steward.

Now, the former multiple-time light heavyweight champion of the world wants to share and impart the knowledge he learned over the years and produce the next big thing in boxing.

Show your support for Chad Dawson’s transition from boxer to trainer by rocking his signature merchandise collection available exclusively on Fan Arch! These “Bad Chad Dawson” and “Champion Breed” sweatshirts and hoodie designs are certified bangers. We even got a limited edition signed boxing card from the man himself!

Chad Dawson is still learning the ropes as a trainer but has already attracted some big names from this generation. Jake Paul, who is preparing to fight Hasim Rashman Jr., recently worked out with the three-time light heavyweight champ.

Paul definitely learned a lot from an amazing sparring partner like Chad Dawson.

But looks like the itch to return to the ring hasn’t completely left Chad Dawson’s body. Jake Paul was already dealing with Rashman as a replacement fighter for his original opponent Tommy Furry. But looks like that fight has also been scrapped.

The Youtuber-turned-boxer needs a new opponent, and Chad Dawson has already stepped up to the plate. “I am ready to step in and save this date,” Chad Dawson said.

Chad Dawson will entertain a one-time, big-money fight with Jake Paul, but it appears that being a boxing trainer is in the cards for him. We remember Chad Dawson as a relentless fighter who never backed down regardless of who was in front of him.

He shared the ring with all-time greats like Bernard Hopkins, Andre Ward, and Adonis Stevenson. If Chad Dawson brings the same tenacity he had as a fighter into his new coaching venture, he’ll definitely be successful in his new field as well.
