Profession Career

To achieve a basketball career, he dropped out of his education and entered the 1993 NBA Draft. Moreover, he was the second overall choice in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Recruiters were divided on whether he should play in the NBA. Although the athlete’s height was an advantage for NBA teams, his thin body made them question his ability.

The 76ers gave him jersey number 76 since he was 7 feet 6 inches tall. Moreover, the franchise management team hired legendary player Moses Malone as his mentor.

Despite this, he had a poor point-per-game average and was traded to the New Jersey Nets. In the 1995 season, he was traded to the Nets and he quickly found his spot on the team and started showcasing his skills.

He recorded his first triple-double with the Nets the following season. In addition, he was the only NBA player to have double-blocked shots in consecutive games.

But he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks under the new Nets management. In Dallas Mavericks, he made some remarkable improvements in the game and was allowed more game time.

He scored 32 points in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers. In addition, he was unbeatable on defense and the best shot-blocker in 1997.

Furthermore, he became the first NBA player to come off the bench with at least 20 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 blocks.

However, his improvement slowed during the next few seasons. Due to injuries, being overshadowed by Mavs star players and others were some of the reasons, he eventually announced his retirement in 2005.

After retirements

After he retired from the professional basketball league, he joined hands with West Ridge Academy. Where, he helped at-risk youths in the private school as a vice-principal, counselor, and coach.

Aside from that, he ran as a Republican against Democratic Representative Tim Cosgrove for Utah’s 44th Congressional District. However, he did not receive enough votes to win the contest.

In addition, he has appeared in television shows and films. The basketballer has appeared in films such as Space Jam, The Singles Ward, Studio C, and Walker, Texas Ranger.

Additionally, he became paralyzed after a motorist hit him while riding his bicycle near his home in St. George, Utah.
