Moore began his music career in jazz and country music, leading a group called the Starlite Wranglers. In 1954, he was introduced to Elvis Presley by Sam Phillips, owner of Sun Records. Moore, along with double bass player Bill Black, became part of Presley’s band, the Blue Moon Boys. They recorded several hit songs together, including “That’s All Right” and “Blue Moon of Kentucky.” Moore also served as Presley’s personal manager for a while.
In 1957, tensions arose between Moore, Black, and Presley, but they were later reunited and went on to perform in Presley’s films “King Creole” and “G.I. Blues.” Moore’s final collaboration with Presley was the “’68 Comeback Special” on NBC.
Beyond his work with Presley, Moore made contributions to the music industry through his production of Thomas Wayne Perkins’ hit song “Tragedy” and his sessions with Roy Orbison. He also released a solo album in 1964 called “The Guitar That Changed the World.”
