Professional baseball player, Gaylord Perry, has passed away at the age of 84.

Throughout his career in Major League Baseball as a right-handed pitcher for eight different teams from 1962 to 1983. In 1991, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Gaylord Perry was born on September 15, 1938, in Williamston, North Carolina to Evan and Ruby Perry. Both his parents are farmers.

He had two siblings and was a middle child; older brother Jim Perry and younger sister Carolyn. His brother Jim like him is a former Major League Baseball pitcher.

During his 17-year baseball career, he pitched from 1959 to 1975 for four teams. He also compiled 215 wins, 1,576 strikeouts, and a 3.45 earned run average.

In 2011, he was inducted into the Twins Hall of Fame in a ceremony before a Twins home game. Jim also has a son named Chris, who is a professional golfer who has been featured in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking.
