Sierra Canyon 5-star PF Kijani Wright commits to USC

USC men’s basketball’s run of success recruiting local talent continued Wednesday with the commitment of another five-star prospect.

This time, it was Sierra Canyon forward Kijani Wright, who announced his pledge to head coach Andy Enfield and the Trojans in an Instagram Live interview with ESPN’s Marc Spears from the USC campus.

“Everyone runs their own race. Don’t get caught up in what he or she is doing because no one is the same. Run your race and be in control of what you want to do,” Wright said in a statement released by his AAU program, Compton Magic. “What I’m doing is committing to the University of Southern California.”

A 6-foot-9 power forward, Wright is a rising senior who will join USC for the 2022-23 season. He held 14 offers, and Kansas, Stanford, Texas and Arkansas were among his finalists with the Trojans.

Wright is ranked 12th nationally in the 2022 class by 247Sports.com’s composite rankings, and is the No. 3 recruit in California. He follows Kevin Porter Jr., Onyeka Okongwu, Isaiah Mobley and Evan Mobley as five-star recruits who have chosen USC in the past five years, the latter three being local prospects like Wright.

Wright played his first two seasons of high school ball with Windward High, averaging 13 points and 8.5 rebounds as a sophomore. He is the first member of USC’s 2022 recruiting class, a strong start for Enfield and his coaching staff.
