BCD Tofu House diner goes on racist rant because Apple Pay wasn't accepted

A customer at a BCD Tofu House at the Irvine Diamond Jamboree berated an employee with racist insults after he was told the restaurant did not take Apple Pay.

Jonny Chun, who recorded a video of the incident on Tuesday at 11:43 p.m. and shared it on TikTok, told NextShark that two Caucasian men he claimed were “under the influence of something” came to dine at BCD.

“We are in America. This is not owned by CCP,” the customer began to say after snapping his fingers at the restaurant employee, who appears to try to reason with the patron in the video.

The customer then asked the employee, “Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?”

Chun said when it was time to pay for the order, one of the customers left, while the one seen on video tried to pay with Apple Pay. A server and then the manager came to say that the restaurant does not use Apple Pay.

“He said he doesn’t have cash or card and lives across the street,” Chun recalled. “They couldn’t let him go without paying.”

That’s when the customer became frustrated and went on different racist rants.

“Just because I’m a white boy…” Chun remembered the customer saying. “I don’t understand Chinese.”

BCD Tofu House is a Korean restaurant chain that serves tofu soup, bibimbap, bulgogi and other traditional food.

Police were not called, according to Chun.

NextShark has reached out to BCD for further comment.
