Right-wing vigilante and militia organizations that congregate along the border frequently assert that they are assisting local or federal law enforcement in the fight against illegal immigration. Sometimes, the organizations promote conspiracies akin to those of QAnon on the alleged problem of child trafficking.

Similar tactics appear to have been used by AZ Patriots, who assert in their films and YouTube comments that they are “helping” the federal government executes immigration law.

Harrison has a history of being friendly with border patrol, even going on a ride-along with officers despite her run-ins with the law.

However, the group’s actions are actually questionable in terms of legality, especially in light of the fact that AZ Patriots are now requesting the identification of asylum applicants before delivering them to federal investigators.

She was worried about whether churches were thoroughly screening immigrant families who had applied for refugee status during one of her protest campaigns, which would lead to her involvement in a federal civil rights lawsuit.

Harrison and other so-called Patriots began documenting busloads of migrants being brought to churches throughout the city in December 2018.

The churches were assisting the immigrants with their resettlement in the country by placing them occasionally with host families who offered to house them for a short while.
