Norman F. Stephen, 89 passed away on May 18, 2022. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Norm was born on May 24, 1932 to Frank & Elizabeth Stephen in Englewood, NJ growing up in Palisades Park New Jersey.
After Norm graduated from Leonia High School in 1950. He went on to study at the United States Military Academy where he excelled on the football field. He was known as “The Pride of the Palisades.” He later joined the US Military as second Lieutenant, serving his time in the Air Force.
He kickstarted his career at Alcoa Aluminum Company of America where he served the company well for 32 years. His sales & marketing assignments over the years were in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Newark, Chicago & Dallas before becoming Vice President of the Chemicals Division in Pittsburgh and thereafter Managing Director of Alcoa of Australiain Melbourne.
Alcoa recognized Norm as a major contributor to the development and expansion of the company’s worldwide chemical business and was responsible for leading Alcoa of Australia to record earnings which greatly benefited the overall performance of the company.
He met his wife Patricia early on and their romance lasted over 60 years. He was blessed with two children Elizabeth Hamilton & Andrew Stephen and four grandchildren.
In 1991 Norm retired and spent much of his time golfing at Oakmont Country Club, vacationing on Charleston’s Coast, and was an active member of Sherwood Oaks. He held the most important position of procuring the alcohol for the annual Sherwood Oaks Egg Nog party which everyone was grateful for!
Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Stephen. He is survived by his daughter Liz Hamilton; his son Andy Stephen (wife Crystal); and his four grandchildren Nik, Alexandra, Kennedy & Delaney.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 3pm at Simons Funeral Home, 7720 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sherwood Oaks Employee Scholarship Fund with checks made payable to “The Sherwood Oaks Fund” (memo line “Scholarship”) Attn: Executive Director at Sherwood Oaks 100 Norman Drive, Cranberry Township, PA 16066
