Grace Kinstler settles for third place during American Idol season 19 finale

Publish date: 2024-06-14

Grace Kinstler made it all the way to the American Idol season 19 finale alongside Willie Spence and Chayce Beckham.

But in the end, Kinstler had to settle for third place as Beckham, a machinery operator from Apple Valley, California, was crowned the new American Idol in 2021.

While the Illinois native delivered riveting renditions of her remaining songs of the competition, she also scored major points by donning several eye-catching gowns for the grand finale.

The Top 3 were tasked with performing songs chosen by the judges, a hometown dedication, a song from the live rounds, and a celebrity duet.

Kinstler performed three tunes within the first hour of the show, as voters all across America voted live for their favorite singer.

She belted out cover versions of Celine Dion’s All By Myself, as her judges’ choice; Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing for her hometown song; (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin as her reprisal song; and a duet of Scars To You Beautiful with Alessia Cara.

And like any other starlet on stage under the bright spotlight, the 20-year-old college student from Illinois showed a flare for fashion by changing up her wardrobe for each song.

For I Have Nothing, Kinstler wore a similar styled gown, only this one had spaghetti straps, and was dark grey or charcoal-colored.

She went with a white form-fitting, patterned gown when she shared the stage with Cara for a duet of her 2016 tune Scars To Your Beautiful.

During the broadcast, she also changed into a black sequin jumpsuit and a black ensemble that included a turtleneck design for the top.

In the first big reveal of the evening, host Ryan Seacrest revealed that Kinstler would be the first to be eliminated from the trio about midway through the three-hour event.
