TV's Most Shocking Sex Scenes: '365 Days' aka '365 DNI' makes 'Fifty Shades of Grey' look like child

Publish date: 2024-07-27

Polish erotic drama '365 Days' aka '365 DNI' has left Netflix movie viewers horny and thirsty for more. Adapted from the first novel of a trilogy written by Blanka Lipińska, the tale follows a dominant Sicilian Don Massimo Torricelli (Michele Morrone) who hunts a young Warsaw woman named Laura Biel (Anna-Maria Sieklucka), imprisons her and grants 365 days to fall in love with him.

The movie begins with a scene where Massimo's father tells him, "Beautiful women are heaven for the eyes and hell for the soul," after he catches a glimpse of Laura through his binoculars. The image is stuck in his mind and he kidnaps Laura. Even as she says, "I am not an object. You cannot kidnap me and make me yours," Massimo says, "I know. That's why I am giving you a chance to fall in love with me."

The two-hour movie boasts of explicit sex, raw intercourse, love-making and pornographic oral coition to the extent that it makes 'Fifty Shades of Grey' look like a child's play. The dialogue, "Are you lost, baby girl?" has gone viral and several viewers can't help but fantasize about the luxurious life full of racy, steamy sex, especially the risqué yacht scene. Many can't stop wondering if the actors were having real sex on the film set.

In an interview with Variety, cinematographer Bartek Cierlica spilled the secrets of making the X-rated scenes look realistic. "We wanted the camera to be as much invisible as possible, to let them act, so indeed the takes were very, very long," she said, adding, "We wanted the viewer to hear their whispers, heavy breaths and we wanted to show the sweat, passion. Be natural, authentic, but not to cross the border of pornography."

"Each sex scene in this movie is different. The relationship evolves. It starts with the fear of the unknown and temptation. It evolves through pure sex with BDSM and ends with love. The main idea was to create the rising tension between the two heroes starting from their first meeting," she added. Explaining how she had several conversations with both directors of the film, Barbara Białowąs and Tomasz Mandes, she said, "We wanted the viewer to participate in playing the game that Laura tries to play with Massimo and discover her sexuality and sensuality with her."

While viewers bashed the nonsensical plot and slammed the makers for glorifying rape and promoting Stockholm Syndrome, they couldn't help but add the boat scene to their bucket list. "That #365dni plot was trash at best. But baby, it made me add toxic, rich, yacht sex to my bucket list," one said and another wrote, "It’s been 2 days since I've seen #365dni and all I can think about is that boat scene. Send HELP." Another said, "Y’all can’t tell me those sex scenes weren’t REAL! #365dnimovie #Netflix #365dni like the yacht scene?? Looked so real to me!"

Hundreds of movie watchers compared the film to soft-core porn and some even categorized it as regular porn. One said, "The movie 365 is practically porn on netflix! #365dni." Another said, "Not literally porn. Porn is having actual sex on camera (not that I have any issue with *that* either) Neither of the characters in #365dni had actual physical sex with each other on camera. I respect the point you're trying to make but the example you used was inaccurate."

Slamming the makers, one said, "WTF did I just watch in 365 days. Nice opening soundtrack, then death, Porn, kidnapping, then Porn, Porn, Porn, then shopping, then tragedy." Another said, "Those who watched #365Dni didn’t watch it for the awful storyline/acting. They watched it for the hot Italian guy & BDSM f***ing scenes. Some women are not into vanilla sex; they enjoy it rough & so they should! Yet, not many men know how to please ‘em!"

Calling it "gross", another Twitter user pointed out, "Am I the only person who found the movie morally gross? Romanticizing Stockholm Syndrome and someone keeping another person in a situation she didn’t want to be. There are going to be impressionable teens who watch that movie and see sex in a different light." While the steamy movie soon grabbed the #1 spot on Netflix, the question remains: Shouldn't the directors and producers ponder before greenlighting a film that is categorically sexist, glorifies forceful sex and may impact young teenagers?
