Cynthia Harris, who was famously known for her stint as Paul Reiser’s mother on the NBC sitcom 'Mad About You' died on Sunday, October 3 in Greenwich Village, New York City, New York. She was 87 years old. The actress' family announced the news of her demise in an obituary on Wednesday, October 6. The cause of death was not immediately available. 

"Cynthia Harris passed away on October 3, 2021. She was an actor well known for her many roles on stage, screen and television. In addition to having devoted her life to the theater she was active in many philanthropic causes, " the obituary read. "Cynthia is survived by her loving partner Nathan Silverstein, her devoted assistant Terrence Mintern, her brother Dr. Matthew Harris (Frances), her sister-in-law Maryjane Harris (brother David predeceased her) and many nieces and nephews. Cynthia's passing is a great loss for the dramatic arts and for all of us, " the statement further added. We have seen the demise of many great actresses in recent times. , , and are to name a few.

Cynthia Harris was also well known for her role in the television series 'Edward & Mrs Simpson'. She even earned a BAFTA Award nomination in 1979 for the same. Born in New York City in 1934, Cynthia was inclined towards acting from a very young age, as a result of which, she began studying theater at age 12 and graduated with a degree in theater and literature from Smith College in 1955. Cynthia made her Broadway debut as an understudy for the drama 'Natural Affection' in 1963. It was in 1971 that she appeared on Broadway in the Stephen Sondheim-George Furth musical, 'Company'. Some of the famous sitcoms Cynthia appeared in include 'Archie Bunker's Place, ' 'All My Children, ' Edward and Mrs Simpson' and 'Mad About You'.
