Close Call: Southwest Flight Dips to 500 Feet Over Oklahoma Suburb, Alarming Passengers | Discuss

The FAA said it was looking into an incident after Southwest Flight 816 flew at an altitude of only 3,000 feet over Oklahoma at 7:40 a. m. Wednesday. An air traffic controller informed the pilots on Flight 4069 that the jet had lowered to a dangerously low altitude of nine miles before it was intercepted close to the airport said the Federal Aviation Administration to USA TODAY after an automated warning had been made. The automated system is MSAW; according to the FAA official site, it is minimum safe altitude warning system which informs the controllers if aircraft has come closer than required altitude.
