Or maybe it’s because I woke up with a terrible migraine. Whatever the case may be, today needs to go on the books as a historically monumental occasion because after a lifetime spent seeking out the darkest and most disturbing things I could find to watch, listen to, and culturally anoint myself with I have never watched something that caused me to leap up, run to the nearest toilet, and barf … until today. Amy Adams Takes a Stab at Solving a Murder in HBOs Sharp Objects Trailer

Family, small towns, anything remotely girly: yup, Gillian Flynn’s specialty is taking the innocuous and making it unnerving. In the first official trailer for Marti Noxon’s limited-series adaptation of the Gone Girl author’s 2014 thriller, even Amy Adams has been scrubbed of her, well, Amy Adams–ness. What’s left is the perturbing tale of a reporter sent back to her hometown to cover a grisly killing. It’s a testament to all involved that “the horrible murder” isn’t even the creepiest thing about the teaser. [Read More]

An Arrest Has Finally Been Made in Tupac Shakurs Shooting

Twenty-seven years after Tupac Shakur was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting. The Associated Press reports that Duane Davis, a.k.a. Keefe D, a South Side Compton Crips gang member who’s long claimed to have witnessed the killing, was arrested on September 29. He was charged with one count of murder with a deadly weapon and was denied bail by a judge. [Read More]

An Ingmar Bergman Movie for Every Quarantine Mood

Much has been written, including by me, about how a particular movie or TV show is the “perfect quarantine viewing.” Unfortunately, everyone, including me, was wrong. After 100-plus days of serious research, I can say with certainty that the actual perfect quarantine viewing is the catalogue of Ingmar Bergman, our moody Swedish king of isolation, the most melancholic introvert ever to barricade himself and his loved ones on a small island and write movies about people slowly going insane because they have barricaded themselves on small islands. And Now, Lets Argue About the Gilmore Girls Boyfriends

This post originally ran on September 24, 2014. We are re-running it in advance of the new season of Gilmore Girls. Margaret Lyons, Lindsey Weber, Danielle Henderson, Amanda Dobbins, and Joe Coscarelli debate maybe the most important of all Gilmore Girls questions: Which boyfriend was the best? Amanda Dobbins: Hello, friends, and thank you for joining me to argue about fictional boyfriends from a show that aired ten years ago. At some point, I’d like to talk about all the major Gilmore Girls relationships — for both Rory and Lorelei — but let’s get right to the big question: Are you a Dean, a Jess, or a Logan? [Read More]

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Adds IRL Aquarium Tour

Good news if you live near an aquarium: Nintendo and Animal Crossing: New Horizons have announced an aquarium tour this summer. Bad news: They’re still not adding any updates to the game. Nintendo is encouraging its villagers to get out of the house and see some fish IRL. After debuting at the Seattle Aquarium last year, Tom Nook & Co. will head to seven new aquariums this summer, beginning at Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach in June. [Read More]
