Robert De Niro and his former assistant Graham Chase Robinson are facing off in Manhattan federal court over dueling misconduct claims. Robinson claims that the Taxi Driver actor subjected her to “years of gender discrimination and harassment,” while his counterclaim alleges financial misconduct, including misuse of company frequent-flier miles. These competing allegations of gender-based and financial wrongdoing were argued before jurors over a two-week period.
The trial proceedings proved quite dishy.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones introduces the titular character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, along with Luke Cage, who’ll have his own series next year. But as always with comic-book film and television adaptations, there are plenty of other heroes and villains hiding in plain sight on Jessica Jones. There are also characters with wildly different backstories than the ones we see onscreen, starting with our heroine, Jessica, who actually tried out the masked-avenger thing in the comics before she ultimately became a private investigator …

This piece originally ran in 2019, when Beanie Feldstein’s character in Booksmart wanted to attend Yale. Now it is 2022 and Drea Torres, played by Camila Mendes, is also a Yale hopeful in Do Revenge, so we are republishing it.
One of the very first things we learn about Molly, Beanie Feldstein’s character in Booksmart, is that she loves Yale. She’s starting her last day of high school with a morning meditation — “Stand atop the mountain of your success and look down at everyone who’s ever doubted you” — and there, in the top left corner of the shot, hangs a blue Yale University pennant.

Claire and Jamie in Outlander. When audience members cheer during a screening, it’s generally viewed by the show’s creators as a victory. But when this happened during the “spanking scene” at the Outlander premiere in New York last week, it gave executive producer Ron D. Moore pause. “It was like, ‘I’m not sure that’s the reaction I really want them to have. What does that mean?!” he told Vulture afterward.

The new Halloweencleaned house at the box office this weekend. With a domestic haul of $77.5 million, it notched both the second-highest opening for an R-rated horror movie of all time (one suspects that pesky It from 2017 will never be beat), as well as the second-highest opening for an October release of all time, sitting just behind the recent record setter, Venom. Even taking into account what was surely a hefty marketing price tag, it’s another very worthwhile investment for Universal and Blumhouse, which co-financed the reportedly $10 million picture with Miramax.

Other than a mere year of overlap on Saturday Night Live(which produced one of the greatest sketches of all time, “Short Shorts for the USA”) and mostly isolated screen time in the no-one-knows-what-it-means-but-it’s-provocative Blades of Glory, Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler have never performed together in a proper two-hander. Which is no laughing matter when you really think about it. How have these two towering titans of comedy never been given the proper court to volley their signature humor and acerbic wit back and forth before?
